Insolvency Canada (Q3 2008 Statistics)

The Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada, an Agency of Industry Canada, has released the fourth quarter results for bankruptcies filed by consumers. The results indicate a continuation of economic slowdown across the country and including Ontario.

Versus Q3 2008 bankruptcies are significantly higher (Ontario 11.5% and Canada 9.6%), and when compared with the year ended 2007, the increase is even more drastic (Ontario 15.1% and Canada 13.5%). Ottawa is the only region in Ontario that has realized a slight improvement versus the prior quarter with consumer bankruptcies down 0.3%.
