The numbers are in and they aren’t pretty. According to the National Retail Federation, Holiday Sales declined 2.8 percent in 2008. This represents the first decline in holiday sales since the NRF started forecasting and tracking the numbers in 1995.
…and the positive: Health, Sport and Fitness were the top growing product categories. Major kudos are in order here. comScore discovered that “Sport & Fitness,” grew 18% online versus one-year ago and the NRF says that among brick and mortar retailers, health and personal care stores grew by 8% and sporting goods were up slightly.
