Reducing your Credit Line

Unless you have good reason for doing so, it is not advisable. By lowering your line of credit you effectively increase your Debt Load (credit to debt ratio). This can hurt your FICO score. Ideally you want to keep your debt utilization under 40% of the credit line. In fact, if your Debt Load is above 40%, you may want to ask for a credit line increase to build your score.
